New Website: Open Root Server Network (ORSN) is online now at: http://www.orsn.org/ - The Independent DNS Solution with IPv6 support for the European Community.
I don't really want to start yet another discussion about alternate roots, but personally, I find it a really bad idea, even if you are "a Legacy Root and 100% compatible with ICANN's root zone". I suppose there should then also be such a system for Asia, Africa and Antarctica, because they can't trust neither ICANN nor ORSN, right?
I sure hope you never have to switch to "independent" mode. Oh, wait, you already have according to http://www.orsn.net/. Would you like to share with us which policitcal event has made ORSN believe that an automatic synchronization with the "legacy root" zone is a threat to the European networks at this time?
Anyway, please get at least the facts straight. What you say on http://european.orsn.net/about.php is completely bogus. Does "anycast" mean anything to you? Please have a look at http://www.root-servers.org/ and you'll find that there are actually *less* instances of root servers in North America than in other parts of the world. f.root-servers.net for example, which you cite on your web site, has 28 locations, 23 of which are outside the USA.
You need to seriously backup your claim that "The failure of one or more systems in the U.S.A already shows problems with the name resolution". Don't bother - I don't think you can.
Sorry for being harsh, but I whish people would stop spreading FUD about this "USA controls the internet" thing. In any case, even the technical arguments used by ORSN to justify its existence are completely detached from reality.
On this page you can find the current operational status of our root server systems and some additional information about the ORSN project.
Cheers
