Who, as a Cablecom customer, is obviously hoping that they will follow suit...
Then again I'd rather keep 2mbit for 75CHF if they'd offer me symmetric upstream instead ;)
Yeah well, let's see about the upstream. I doubt this will raise in the near future. Outbound traffic is expensive plus DOCSIS Upstream takes place in the lower TV Band (VHF). Space is rather limited there and most headend stations (uBR) only have one or two connectors for upstream traffic (meaning upstream coming from the modem, even though it's labelled differently =:-) So basically all or even a big part of the customers modem share the same upstream channel. This is gonna get very tight, even if you use advanced modulations like QAM-256 (We normally use QAM-16 or even PSK at very small ISPs).
Cablecom probably will offer greater bandwidths once they have switched to digital TV becaus of digital TV is capable of offering a multitude of TV programs over a single channel. And with DOCSIS 3.0 one can bundle channels for even more bandwidth. Needs new infrastructure (modems and uBRs) though.
