.ch registrars : goodbye nic.ch, but where to go then ?

Hello, As you most probably all know, .ch domains which are still registered at nic.ch have to be moved to another registrar by autumn 2016 (https://www.nic.ch/reg/cm/wcm-page/misc/aufgabentrennung.html). But thanks to some recent marketing campaigns (like "Per 31. Dezember 2014 braucht Ihre .ch-Domain ein neues Zuhause!"), ads and newspaper articles, some customers are already panicking, so I am also looking for a new home for a few hundreds of self-hosted domains. Requirements: - it should be a registrar only company, if possible (to prevent departure of customers to other hosting companies) - customer billed directly - DNSSEC / IPV6 capable - no aggressive ads on checkout (add antivirus, add top listing, add hosting, etc.) At the moment, my first choice would be gandi.net, even if they are a little bit more expensive than the others and they are also selling some kind of hosting, because it "just works", and I like their "no bullshit" promise :) But maybe there would be a more suitable alternative, so my question to you if you are in a similar situation : which is your new .ch-registrar and why ? Troubles with IPv6 queries to whois.nic.ch?

I'm not aware of having other clients within my /48 network doing any queries to whois.nic.ch (yes, my blacklist scripts do a lot of queries to whois.ripe.net and other RIR's to get abuse contacts, but not to switch) -Benoît-

It seems Upatre is morphing very quickly, so signature based AV solutions will always be behind. Here Cloudmark recognizes new variants of Upatre in about one hour after the first one arrives, but in that one hour lots of them arrive. New .exe virus in.zip file via mail

Hi all I've been contacted by a couple of customers which caught a new virus in the last few days, sent by e-mail in a .zip file containing an .exe. (yes, there are still people out there who open these kind of attachments if they come from a known address) The .zip file passes our AV on the mailserver (Kaspersky) as well as our desktop AV (Symantec) with the newest definitions. Once infected, it spreads via e-mail (probably through the outlook e-mail profile, it authenticates nicely against our mailserver anyway) blasting out hundreds of mails in a single short session only to sleep again until the next day... Performance is good, it's stable, no major problems. There might be differences in performance concerning the ASICs as mentioned by Ralf, but for our use performance was always more than enough. One caveat: Don't use the vmxnet2 or vmxnet3 drivers for the NICs. Use the e1000. FortiNet provides images with vmxnet* drivers, but this configuration is not supported by VMware for vsphere. It has been working until vsphere 5.5. With vsphere 5.5 the FortiVM freezes at every snapshot taken. We then changed the NIC type to e1000, no problems since then. Please note that the FortiVM is just a replacement for a FortiGate. It does not use SDDC as the FortiGate-VMX. Daniel

Dear colleagues, We are in the process of evaluating “cloud" firewall solutions such as FortiVM. The promise of these virtual appliances looks interesting and it seems like a great fit given our current infrastructure is based off of Fortigate physical appliances. Nonetheless, I can’t help but think that given the virtual appliance nature of these solutions there could be a number of limitations to it. Has anybody evaluated this solution or is running in production ? Any feedback would be welcome. Also for our sales friends, if you can provide us a competitive quote off-list we’re interested as the pricing we’ve received so far is a bit steep. PI address space needed

Hi, currently we (local.ch) are hosted in two different datacenters, each with a dedicated uplink. In order to improve the reliability and to dissolve single points of failure I want to do a proper BGP setup. One step of the whole thing is getting a PI space. As I do not want to become a LIR (too tedious, too much work) we want to buy a /24 for our setup. Can anyone point me into the right direction (or even sell a /24 ;))? Greetz, Andre

Dazu werden wir die Open Source Pläne von verschiedenen Firmen nutzen um mittels Laser Cutter und 3D Drucker die entsprechenden teile für die Headsets zu erstellen um sie dann zu einem ganzen zusammen bauen zu können. Fortgeschrittene und erfahrene Profis die Zugang zu Profi 3D CAD Konstruktions Tools haben können zudem dank den vorhandenen Open Source STEP, ProE und IGES Konstruktionspläne und den verfügbaren Elektronik Schaltplänen und Elektronik Bauteilelisten ihre eigene Next Generation Virtual Headset für den Consumer Market bauen, ausdrucken und zusammen löten. Sofern ihr Probleme mit der Organisation der spezifischen Materialien wie die Biconvexe Spherische Linsen für das CardBoard VR Headset habt lässt mich dies per Mail wissen damit ich diese für euch für einen unkosten Beitrag von 10.- Franken organisieren kann. Recommended IP-transit provider with large reachability (v4/v6) in Suisse Romande

Dear swinog members, I'm looking for a second provider to achieve a BGP multihoming setup. Currently we have a peering with Hurricane Electric, we choose them initially because: * They have a very good reachability over IPv4, one of the best with IPv6 * The IP transit is cheap, even for large bandwidth (10Gb/s) ~0.5$/Mbit * We already had other services provided by them and we were very satisfied We're looking for a provider with more or less the same reachability (ipv4+ipv6) and presence to have a well-balanced setup (inbound). I saw that UPC was interesting in term of reachability compared to Hurricane Electric (peering for UPC is made with the LibertyGlobal AS6830). But I don't know much about them in term of peering policy (consistent routes, ...), so any suggestions / comments are welcome ! Last but not least I'm looking for such service in Switzerland region around Lausanne. Thanks for your help.
