BUT: somewhen it stops working because of one thousand possible CEF bugs ;-( i have to put "no ip route-cache cef" on the interconnection interface, then it works. some hours later (as already said) it stops working. when i do again "no ip route-cache cef" on the interface it works some other hours. i've tried several IOS for the C7200series and the only half-way working version is the 12.4T (or even 12.3T). so, now the big question to the community: 1) do you see any other working way doing source-routing from one vrf to another vrf? (there's a vrf source routing command, but i think this will really not scale) 2) do you have encountered the same CEF bugs? hi swinog members we have the need to rollout a pppoe setup on our dsl colocations where static ip with mtu 1500 is actually in place. as i know many postings around the world regarding pppoe mtu problems and advices to customers to reduce mtu on their clients down to 1492, i wanted to ask for a feedback from you if you all have pppoe with 1500 (=1492) in place or someone uses pppoe with 1508 from cpe to pppoe-server? if you use 1500: are the mentioned problems with websites (eg: gmx) or ipsec setups still an issue ? thanx and best regards from austria to our neighbors bernd spiess / happynet.at / i3b.at

Equinix to buy IXEurope (TIX Telehouse in Zürich)

Today Equinix announced their intent to buy the whole IXEurope Group including the Swiss operations in Zurich and Geneva. I don't expect any changes other than a new logo and new email addresses (with forwardings from the old ones). TIX will just continue to operate as it did since I built it eight years ago. It's nice to see my baby TIX (Telehouse Facilities AG, Zürich -> IXEurope Switzerland AG) having grown so much and now becoming part of the (now) global Equinix data center and Internet exchange operator. For all newcomers to the telco scene in Switzerland. I founded the data center known as TIX or Telehouse Zürich in 1998 with financial help from my friends Oliver Küpfer and Christoph Lautenschlager. From 1998 till November 1999 when Nicole Bernet (actually my wife since two weeks ago) joined I did almost every- thing as a one-man show. It was very exhausting but it worked out nicely. With Nicole we quickly accelerated the build out of new space, first 3rd floor in Hard 235 and later 3rd floor in Josef 225 and hired more employees to get all the work done. The demand for space was incredible and was driving us to our financial limits. At the same time we got approached by a number of other venture financed pan-European data center operators. Eventually IXEurope prevailed and made the best and most interesting offer so we merged in October 2000. An IPO was planned for November and I still remember the IPO preparations and procedures I had to participate in as Country Manager of the Swiss operations. Due to the detoriating market situation the IPO was cancelled and not attempted again until April 2006. In December 2000 I decided to move on with a new interesting project and to vacate my job as IXEurope Switzerland Country Manager by February 2001. My bosses at IXEurope gave me the task to select my own successor. I opted for Frits van der Graaff (he's still the Country Manager) and Nicole Bernet for Data Center Operations Manager (which she has excellently done since she started). I moved to the Chairmain of the Swiss board position until March 2003. I want to thank all current and former IXEurope Switzerland (and the other countries as well) for their hard work and dedication to their job making it a huge success. Hi everyone, for some of you the topic of VoIP fraud might be interesting, especially if you are in VoIP/Telecoms industry. You an check the anti-fraud project at www.voipfraud.net. According to the feedback collected during recent GTM 2007 in Washington, many people from this global industry are still not aware of the VoIP fraud threat. From my own (or my companies) experience I can say that VoIP fraud is not something that "happens to someone else"; fortunately we have managed to discover fraud attempts early enough. However, there are many thiefs outside and they could be very dangerous (some of them managed to steal out several millions dollars and to harm dozens of companies). So, probably it makes sense to inform people at least about their existence, their names and schemes they are using. On the mentioned web-site you can find an interesting part about fraud schemes and also the list of already identified cheaters. I'm building the CDN for Zattoo and as it's some sort of 'anycast' infrastructure (refer to the presentation @ SwiNOG #14), I have several geographically dispersed network islands, not connected via a layer-2 link. Each network island propagates one or more /24 networks, using AS8302. Now, BGP mechanism prevents AS-pathes like ^[Transit-AS]_8302$ in my case ^13030_8302$ if I'm AS8302 myself. I know there is some tweak to prevent this default behaviour. Could anyone give a hint for Foundry and Cisco gear? Thanks, Fredy

vtx ADSL /30 subnet practice

It seems that vtx has some very strange way of configuring the /30 subnet when customers order 4 fix IP addresses. Normally when someone orders a /30, the ADSL router's PPP interface would get an address from an unrelated address range. The 4 addresses from the customer's /30 subnet can be used by the custumer for the network and broadcast addresses (-2), the router's LAN interface (-1), leaving one address for a server or desktop machine. However, this seems not to be the case at vtx.ch. As two vtx engineers explained to a (tech-savvy dipl. Inform.) customer, they use the addresses from the /30 subnet for the PPP link between their last router and the customer's ADSL router. So in effect, this means ordering a /30 subnet (the 4 fix IP addresses option) from vtx gets you the same as ordering a single fix IP address -- you get a static address on your ADSL router's PPPoA/PPPoE interface, period. To actually use the static address on a server/desktop, you need to either configure destination NAT on your router or operate it in bridging mode and run PPPoE directly from the server/desktop.
